    Comcast, Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild, Local Officials Celebrate Grand Opening of New Customer Support Center

    TUCSON, AZ – May 5, 2016 – As part of its ongoing commitment to reinvent the customer experience, Comcast today celebrated the grand opening of a newly renovated 100,000 square foot Center of Excellence in Tucson. The state-of-the art facility will house more than 1,100 employees providing support for Comcast residential products and services, including Spanish-speaking employees who specialize in customer service online and through social media channels.

    Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild, Congresswoman Martha McSally, Laura Ciscomani, Director of Corporate Relations, Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and Joe Snell, president & CEO, Sun Corridor Inc. joined Comcast leaders and employees at the grand opening event held at the Center of Excellence.

    "I want to congratulate Comcast on its new Center of Excellence," said Mayor Rothschild. "I'm pleased that city incentives were able to help bring this project to Tucson, along with more than 1,100 jobs it creates. I especially appreciate Comcast's focus on hiring veterans, reservists, and their spouses."

    Comcast first announced plans to open the Tucson Center of Excellence in May of last year, and has continued to hire for the new positions and provide comprehensive training for team members while renovating and investing in the facility. With the addition of the Center of Excellence, Comcast will employ nearly 1,400 people in Tucson, including employees in surrounding areas.

    At least fifteen percent of the new positions are being filled by reservists, veterans and their spouses or domestic partners as part of Comcast’s commitment to hire 10,000 military personnel and their family members by the end of 2017.

"Being a veteran myself, I understand that the military teaches valuable life lessons about leadership, teamwork and commitment — all skills which make a great employee hire for Comcast."

    “Comcast’s decision to open its new Center of Excellence here illustrates the many advantages Southern Arizona has to offer,” added Congresswoman McSally, retired United States Air Force Colonel. “Our diverse, supportive community and prime location make Tucson an ideal place to do business. I congratulate Comcast on the grand opening and commend its focus on hiring veterans and their families.”

    Today’s announcement reinforces Comcast’s continued investment in Tucson. In 2015, Comcast spent nearly $60 million in Tucson and surrounding areas on capital expenditures, taxes and fees, employee investment and community investment. Tucson employee investment

    including payroll, benefits, healthcare, training and tuition reimbursement totaled more than $26 million in 2015. Additionally, last year Comcast contributed more than $380,000 to Tucson and surrounding area community organizations and non-profits.

    “Comcast’s new presence will bring a $385 million total economic impact to our region through the creation of thousands of new direct and indirect jobs, payroll and capital investment,” said Snell. “The presence of Comcast will show the world we are a serious contender when it comes to innovative global companies seeking to expand operations in Southern Arizona.”

    The Center of Excellence in Tucson is one element of Comcast’s multi-year plan to reinvent the customer experience and to create a culture focused on exceeding customers’ expectations, at all levels of the company.

    The new site contains innovative Xfinity product training labs, employee cafeterias, a fitness center, amphitheater-style meeting rooms and much more.
