Jean Savage is Vice President of the Surface Mining & Technology division. In this position, Savage oversees the division’s end-to-end value chain, ensuring a customer-centric approach in product design, development, manufacturing and sales. Savage is responsible for driving improved performance, delivering financial results and operational improvements in SM&T, a division of 5,000 employees.
Savage had previously held the roles of Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Vice President with responsibility for the Innovation and Technology Development Division (ITDD). In this capacity, she oversaw all development and implementation of the enterprise technology investment strategy and product development. She was also responsible for the design control for the company’s advanced components business.
Prior to these roles, Savage held several roles in Progress Rail, a wholly owned subsidiary of Caterpillar Inc., from 2002 to 2013 including profit and lost (P&L) responsibilities. Savage culminated her experience at Progress Rail by serving as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Locomotive and Railcar Services business unit, with full P&L responsibility, with approximately $950 million in revenue. In this role, she reported to the Chief Executive Officer of Progress Rail.
Prior to joining Progress Rail, she worked in a variety of manufacturing and engineering positions in her 14 years at Parker Hannifin Corporation, a leader in motion and control technologies and systems. During this time Savage also spent nine years in the Army Reserves as a military intelligence officer.
Savage began her career as Military Intelligence Officer with the US Army.
Savage has a bachelor’s degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Cincinnati and a master’s degree in engineering management from the University of Dayton.
